Webinar | Writing Scientific Articles by Non-native English Speakers

Csilla was a speaker at the 5th English for Healthcare Conference, where she gave a hugely interesting and always relevant talk on writing scientific articles in English, a lingua franca of medicine and science, by non-native English speakers.

Writing scientific articles in the basis of being involved in professional life. Why do non-native speakers of English (try to) publish in English? As English is the lingua franca of medical sciences, medical papers are mostly expected to be written in this language. An advanced level of knowledge of general English is not sufficient for publishing a scientific paper in English. Further skills and subskills have to be acquired as well to have the paper published.

How can medical English teachers help their student develop these skills? Are the problems medical writers face the same for speakers of various languages? The webinar would discuss the questions presenting the results of an international questionnaire and interview based research backed up by literature review.
